
What Is the Athens Area Maternity & Baby Fair?
The
Athens Area Maternity and Baby Fair is a free, fun, family
event for everyone with a baby/young child in their life now or
in the future parents, expecting parents,
grandparents, children, and friends! The event provides an
opportunity for interested individuals and families to learn
about maternal/child community resources. The event features
educational sessions, retailers selling products, health
institutions, social service agencies and other community
organizations exhibiting, childrens activities, and Silent
Auction.

The Athens Area Maternity and Baby Fair began in 1997 by the Community Breastfeeding Coalition at Clarke County Health Department. In 1998, the Community Breastfeeding Coalition collaborated with Athens Regional Medical Center, Public Health and St Marys Health Care System to hold the first Fair at the Classic Center. Each year the event has grown and has continued to be a great success. 2010 attendance was estimated at 1000.
Many community organizations and businesses help support this event every year. If you are an interested business or organization refer to the Exhibitor page to find out how you can participate in this years event. You can exhibit, donate a Silent Auction item, sponsor, advertise, contribute your services, etc.
The Goals of the Maternity and Baby Fair
To achieve a collaborative effort among all health institutions and agencies and other community organizations interested in promoting healthy perinatal practices.
To provide an opportunity for interested individuals and families to learn about maternal/child/family community resources.
To provide educational sessions related to childbearing years and family health.
To conduct all activities in accordance with the World Health Organizations Baby Friendly initiative.
To conduct all activities in a friendly family environment.
To conduct all activities in accordance with accepted medical practices.
